MAN & MATTER SCULPTURE RESTORATION
LOCATION: South Bank, Brisbane
ENGINEER: Bligh Tanner
CLIENT: Brisbane City Council
Brisbane City Council engaged Clarke Constructions to repair and restore the twelve Man and Matter Sculptures which were displayed at the World Expo '88 in preparation for their 30 year anniversary. These sculptures were created by artist Peter D Cole and were based on the theme of “Recreation and leisure in the technological age”. The statues were removed in the early '90s from the original Expo site and relocated along a kilometre length of the Kangaroo Point Boardwalk. Over the years the external conditions, including a couple of flood events, have taken a toll on the statues with corrosion, discolouration and general damage taking hold. The project was undertaken in three stages as we worked down the river with each of the statues being fenced off and repaired. At each stage the works were then signed off by Council and Engineer Consultant, Bligh Tanner.
